Storage Specialist (Unix & Windows Operating Systems) The Storage Technical Specialist is responsible for the daily administration, management and support of centralised storage and backups for UNIX and Windows based operating systems. Job Responsibilities: Storage • Administration of SAN attached storage, which includes the management, zoning and troubleshooting of storage components such as fibre channel switches, fibre connections and storage sub-systems • Ensure storage technology strategies are in place • Install and maintain new technologies • Ensure optimal deployment and use of technologies • Assist in strategic planning and technology decisions • Perform Proof of Concepts • Performance monitoring of SAN infrastructure • Drive innovation and automation of ICT processes • Storage capacity reporting • Develop and promote standard operating procedures, document the environment and procedures as they change Backups • Administration of backups across all platforms • Ensure backup technology strategies are in place • Troubleshoot TSM application issues as well as issues with backups and/or restores • Perform installations and upgrades of backup servers and clients including data base modules • Analyse backup requests and design appropriate solutions to meet client needs • Monitoring of scheduled backups to ensure success or take remedial action for failures • Performance monitoring of backups • Manage and maintain SLAs • Develop and promote standard operating procedures, document the environment and procedures as they change • Assist with DRE Roles and Responsibilities The Storage IT Technical Specialist reports to the Infrastructure Operations Manager.
